Childcare Cost & Responsibilities

The foremost concern for any childcare professional is the safety and wellbeing of the child/ren in their care. It is their responsibility to create an environment that is fun, educational and caring whilst supporting the child to develop in a creative and social environment.

Nannies

Nannies are qualified and/or have a minimum of 2-year experience as a Nanny (which are all checked and verified through Cuddles).

 Listed below is an example of Nursery Duties.

 Nursery Duties

  •  Caring for all the children in their care.
  • Preparing and feeding the children in their care at meal times with nutritious meals.
  • Dressing the children, washing and ironing their clothes.
  • Cleaning areas in which the children use i.e. play room, bedrooms and bathrooms.
  • Tidying up after playtime, meal time and other messy activities.
  • Responsibility for organising play dates, outing and other social activities.
  • Their skills will be used to encourage learning through play and other activities while also ensuring any homework has been completed.
  • Nannies can have sole charge responsibility of the children or work alongside the parents.
  • The Nanny performs nursery duties only, unless mutually agreed by both parties prior to job commencement

The salary guidelines outlines below are general and based on current London Childcare salaries. Salaries may change depending on location within the UK or abroad and the demands each individual job.

 

Live Out (Daily) Nanny

 £350-450 net per week

Live out Nannies usual working hours are approximately 10 hours per day Monday to Friday, with working hours similar to 8-6pm. Some Nannies may be available for babysitting at an extra charge between £7- £10 p/h and will need to booked in advance to avoid disappointment. Daily Nannies prefer to have weekends free, but if you do require them to work a weekend, the Nanny will usually get paid extra or receive days off in lieu, and this is to be mutually agreed by both parties prior to engagement of their services.

A permanent live out (daily) Nanny post is usually for a minimum of one year. At the end of that year, the job requirements will then be re-assessed and it will be the decision of the Employer and Nanny if they would like to renew the contract (this is to no extra cost from the employer to the agency

 

Live In Nanny

 £250-350 net per week

Live in Nannies usual working hours are up to 11 hours day, Monday to Friday. If you require the Nanny to work any weekend days or regular babysitting evenings this must be discussed and mutually agreed prior to commencement of the position. The Nanny will usually get paid extra for working weekends or receive days off in lieu.

A permanent live in Nanny position is for a minimum of 1 year; at the end of that year, the job requirements will then be re-assessed and it will be the decision of the Employer and Nanny if they would like to renew the contract (this is to no extra cost from the employer to the agency).

 

Mothers' Help/Au Pair

 £120-220 Live in net per week

£250-300 Live Out net per week

 

These salary guidelines are dependant on age and experience

Mothers' Help are usually on a live-in basis. Mothers' Help tend to have little sole charge Childcare experience and are without formal qualifications. Mothers' Helps are not usually expected to have sole charge care of children for prolonged periods as they mainly work alongside parents. The Mothers' Help may be asked to perform light housework in addition to childcare but this is to be discussed and mutually agreed prior to job commencement.

 

Maternity Nurse/Nanny

 £575 - 750 per week or £13-15 per hour

Maternity Nurses are trained or experienced Nurses/Nannies who specialise in newborn care. They work 24hrs 5-6 days per/week. They usually arrange to meet the family at their home from the hospital. A maternity nurse will stay for a period between 4-8 weeks but this can vary depending on the individual needs of the family. Maternity Nurses are very much in demand and tend to be booked up for a period of about 6 months in advance. They normally have the baby/ies in their room to encourage the mother to recover from delivery.

Maternity Nurses are self-employed therefore pay their own tax.

 The roles of a Maternity Nurse are as follows:

  • Provide support and encouragement to parents.
  • Help answer any questions the parents may have on how to care for their baby.
  • Advise and support parents on breast or bottle-feeding, routine setting general baby care and hygiene.
  • Nursery Duties applies to the baby they are caring for, including, washing and ironing the baby clothes, sterilising bottles, cleaning and changing the babies bed and general hygiene of the babies environment.
  • As the Maternity Nurse sleep in the baby's room she will be responsible for settling the baby after night feeds.

Multiple Birth Maternity Nurse/Nanny

 £750 - 950 per week or £16-18 per hour

Very experienced Maternity Nurses/Nannies who specialise in multiple births. Ideal for parents expecting twins or triplets.

 

Maternity Nurse/Nanny (trainee)

 £550-600 per week or £10-12 per hour

Experienced with newborns as well as offering support with other siblings. They have the same role as a Maternity Nurse but their main experience is as a Nanny. These Nannies will also be on hand to support and advise mothers in the care of the newborn when she needs it most.

 

Doulas

Doulas are women normally mothers who offer their support both emotional and practical during the different stages of a new life, pregnancy, birth and postnatal.

 

Birthing Doulas

Doulas have been proven to have a very calming effect on the birthing experience. They offer encouragement to the mother, whilst giving the father the confidence required to help his partner through the birth. They have been proven to decrease the risk of having a cesarean, postnatal depression and help support the mother through the early stages of breast-feeding.

A birthing Doula does not usually come from a medical background, more from her own personal experience. She is there to support the mother and father during the labour. She has only the parents best interests at heart and has a clear understanding of the birthing plan.

 

Postnatal Doula

Postnatal Doulas work in your home, they provide you with practical and emotional support you may need immediately after the birth of your baby. Postnatal Doulas offer a very flexible service, catering to you and your family needs. They are usually available at times convenient to you including evenings, weekend and daytimes.

Some of the services Postnatal Doulas offer:

  • Laundry
  • Cooking
  • Light housework
  • Breastfeeding support
  • Feeding advice
  • Help caring for baby
  • Taking care of the child/ren to allow Mum and Dad some alone time
  • School run
  • Activities for older siblings
  • Emotional support
  • Outings e.g. shopping.
  • Postnatal Doulas will usually work for a family anytime from birth up to 12 weeks post-partum.

The fees for these services are charged by the hour. Prior to engagement the Doula will usually ask you to commit to a certain amount of hours. Extra hours can be added at any stage (subject to availability!)

 

Babysitting Service

Monday- Thursday £7.50 p/hr*

Friday - Sunday £9.00 p/hr*

After midnight the rate goes up to £9ph Monday-Thursday & £10 Friday - Sunday*

Special occasions i.e. Valentines Night, New Years eve etc may result in a hire hourly rate

6 monthly Agency Fee of £24.95 & £5 booking fee applies

12 monthly Agency Fee of £45.00 & £3 booking fee applies

Our baby sitters are available from different times depending on the needs of the family. They are experienced and often qualified Childcare professionals, Teachers and Nurses. This service is on offer to families at evenings and weekends. Babysitters are paid for a minimum of 4 hours work. It is the Employer's responsibility to ensure the babysitter returns home safely after 10pm, whether by taxi or the parents driving them home.
